Tom Hanks, Jon Hamm among Conan's first TV guests

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Tom Hanks, "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm, and "Knocked Up" actor Seth Rogen will be among the first guests on Conan O'Brien's new late night TV talk show, cable network TBS said on Thursday.

Jack White, Soundgarden and Fistful of Mercy will be providing the music for the opening week of "Conan", which debuts on November 8.

The November8 premiere is also supposed to feature the winner of a whimsical, first guest contest running on O'Brien's teamcoco.com website, where Jack Nicholson and Lady Gaga are currently ahead of Pope Benedict, Justin Bieber and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in the popular vote.

"Conan" marks the comedian's return to television after quitting NBC's flagship "The Tonight Show" last January in a bitter stand-off with the network and talk show host Jay Leno.

As part of a $45 million exit deal, O'Brien was barred from launching a new TV show before September 2010.

Goldikova wins for third time at Breeders'

LOUISVILLE (Reuters) – French-based mare Goldikova unleashed a devastating late burst to win the $2 million Breeders' Cup Mile and become the first horse to win three times at the world's richest race meeting.

Patiently ridden by jockey Olivier Peslier, the five-year-old showed a brilliant turn of foot after rounding the final bend in sixth place to flash past her rivals and repeat her victories in the same race in 2008 and 2009.

"She's amazing, she can do anything," Goldikova's trainer Freddie Head said.

"I was the first jockey to win this race twice with a mare and now I'm the trainer of a mare winning three times. It's unreal."

Zenyatta, the favorite for Saturday's $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic, would join Goldikova as a three-time winner if she won the final feature event of the two-day $26 million carnival at Churchill Downs.

Goldikova provided Europe with their first winner of the meet after Workforce, who won the Epsom Derby and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe this year, was scratched from the $3 million Breeders' Cup Turf just hours before the race.

Connections of the English-based colt were concerned about the hard surface and were pinning their hopes on rain softening up the track but instead they were greeted by brilliant sunshine.

"There has been no rain and the ground is firmer than we would have liked for Workforce," said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for Juddmonte Farms that races Workforce. "We have absolutely no complaints, but the welfare of the horse is paramount."

Saturday's meeting was tinged with tragedy when Rough Sailing, a longshot in the $1 million two-year-old race on the turf, was euthanized after snapping a bone in his leg in the race, brilliantly won by Pluck.

But it was another young colt, Uncle Mo, that really set pulses racing after a breathtaking win in the two-year-old race on dirt.

Uncle Mo left his rivals in his slipstream as he sailed past the iconic Twin Spires to win by four and a quarter lengths and establish himself as the early favorite for next year's Kentucky Derby.

"That was as impressive as they get. It was an unbelievable performance," Uncle Mo's trainer Todd Pletcher said.

"I don't get goose-bumps very often, but I had them today."

Calvin Borel and Javier Castellano, the two jockeys involved in a punch-up on the opening day, will have to wait another week before knowing whether they will be punished.

Kentucky racing stewards ordered a formal hearing into the ugly brawl from Friday, which happened in full view of the public and was captured by television cameras, to be held on November 13.

Steward John Veitch said both jockeys had elected not to attend the hearing and would accept any penalty handed down, which could range from a warning to a fine or suspension.

Russell Brand, Katy Perry to wed in Jaipur

JAIPUR, India – An Indian tour operator says British actor-comedian Russell Brand and American pop star Katy Perry are getting married this weekend at a luxury resort outside the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan Tours manager Mohan Singh says his company is one of several involved in organizing the six-day celebration that begins Saturday with a Hindu wedding ceremony.

Singh says Brand and Perry have hired 13 vehicles to take some of their 80 or so guests on tours of the tiger sanctuary in the days after the wedding.

He said Thursday the couple will stay in a luxury tent at the Aman-i-Khas resort, with guests staying at the nearby Vanyavilas and Sher Bagh resorts.

Private security has been stationed at the hotels, which have refused to discuss the event with media.
